3 Motivation is neither fixed nor infinite

My first impression of web marketing tactics was that there were many people offering their experience for sale as a quick and easy way to earn extraordinary income. Notwithstanding the well meaning and important value of being all that you can with visions and plans for future achievement, present reality is a stark contrast. For the purpose of this discussion it is the place from which measurement begins. So we must start by making a distinction between the present and the future standard of living.

To begin then, a standard of living is a measure of what you can afford to purchase with your present income. Typically, as income increases so does the standard of living. However, a common approach to improving living standard is to leverage earning potential by taking out a loan to buy what you feel improves your standard. This is a basic concept of leverage used both personally and in business. This form of credit is based on an optimistic forecast that the person or business can meet the payment obligations according to the terms. What makes this optimistic is to assume the basis for the ability to pay will stay the same or improve. Sometimes it doesn’t.

In economic theory, theory and practice are the same. In reality they differ. After all, why would anyone want to start an internet business with little money or time to invest except in the event the reality of their financial situation compels them to seek a path of least resistance to sustain or improve a standard of living. Now let’s return to putting a value on present standard of living and set an economic cornerstone.

First let’s disconnect living expenses from debt. This places present standard of living without debt as a number value or target value for replacement income. Debt and current income are variables. Time and experience then becomes your main assets on the path to prosperity where debt is short term, standard of living is paid up, and income meets demand. Once this point is reached start-up matures to business operation for the purpose of sustainability and growth. So the day you start to do business on the internet until you have paid your debts and have reliable recurring income that pays for your ongoing standard of living and business operating expenses is the day start up ends and business begins.

Goals: A goal is a pre-determined result. Something you intend to achieve over the long term.

Weekly goals contribute to the achievement of your personal mission. To help you identify your weekly goals, ask yourself: What is the most important thing I could do in each role this week to have the greatest positive impact?

Weekly goals are not typical to dos or daily action items, but represent activities such as relationship building, planning, preparation, personal development, and personal renewal. They are important, but not necessarily urgent.

Goals that are not demanding are barely goals at all. Nothing is more motivating than setting demanding goals that reflect your values and then figuring out how to achieve them systematically.

III. Achievable
Goals must be feasible enough for you to achieve them. If you set goals that are so unrealistic you have no hope of attaining them, you set yourself up for frustration and failure. However, if you have an impossible dream that you really want, do not abandon it. Break it up into smaller, more realistic, attainable goals and begin achieving them, one at a time.

IV. Measurable

Your goals must be measurable so you can judge your progress so you know when you have succeeded. Measuring progress is also an excellent motivator and enables you to correct your course when necessary.

V.Given Deadlines
Goals need deadlines. Otherwise, they will be shifted aside to whatever seems pressing at the moment.

VI. Written
Goals should be written so they are not be forgotten. One person said Out of sight, out of mind. Another reminded us that The palest ink is better than the best memory.

VII. Flexible
Goals must be flexible enough to accommodate changing conditions.

There are those who are bounded by laws and rules, yet success is too distant for them. On the other hand, there are those who appears to be easy going people but are successful. What do goals represent by the way? These are actually representations of your visions about you and your future. Goals should be achievable and realistic. 3. Act in accordance to your personal goals. Proper mind setting is very important in achieving your personal goals. Take the extra mile. Try taking risks but never compromise your safety. Taking risks means that you are ready to learn new things and challenges that will help you in the long run.

Probably the hardest part of setting goals is the first step of actually deciding to take action! The main hurdle that most people face is the incorrect assumption that goals are only for business or sales-minded people. The reality is everyone subconsciously sets goals throughout their day. There are always occasions where something has to be done at a particular time or place. Simple examples could be getting up at a certain time in order to be at work, or to meet with a friend for a leisure activity.

After years of sales meetings, one small statement made me realize that this process is as natural as breathing. The beauty of having goals is the uniqueness of each one to the person setting the goal. They are very specific to them and their circumstances whether in the area of business, financial, personal or spiritual.

The most important part initially, is to write them down. Having the goals written down gives incredible power and focus to your efforts.

Aim for something that will stretch you whilst remaining achievable. If the goal is achieved too easily it is not high enough to make any significant change in your life and needs to be adjusted. On the other hand, if you consistently miss the goal, re-evaluate and consider setting it a little lower as you will probably get discouraged and give up. The aim is to keep growing, and moving into a more satisfactory position for your circumstances.

The goal should be as specific as possible with a benefit of attaining it. Another good idea is to also have the result of not reaching the goal. This will strengthen your resolve to take the necessary action.

As you obtain the levels that you have set for yourself always include a small reward at each point. This will only need to be a small treat in the beginning, such as a meal out or a weekend vacation.

Remember that these changes will not take place overnight and there will be a period of time when nothing seems to be happening. This is why the goals need to be detailed and as specific as possible with a consequence and a benefit.

Allow some time on a daily basis to educate yourself on how to make the necessary adjustments in your life. This could include listening to a cd or reading a book on motivation etc. There is an enormous amount of resources available to anyone looking for help in this area.

A simple method to start with could be one goal in the main areas of life to be achieved in one month, six months, one year and five years. Break that down further into a daily, weekly and monthly plan.

To summarize. Write them down, be specific, and allow time. Review and adjust on a regular basis. Stay focussed and disciplined to achieve all you desire.
